Parent (creative writing sessions for home schooling, year 7)
‘The sessions were helpful, I felt that they were thorough enough that I could just give them to [my son] and not have to worry about any of it myself. He said that he enjoyed them and found the feedback useful.’
Creative writing can be a fantastic and enjoyable part of home-schooling. With my courses, I do the work and you just need to print the session out each week. It is a good way to encourage independence in the student for their own learning, too (so maybe they can do the printing out!).
On the course, we will cover all genres and forms of writing, as well as working on style aspects of writing. Each session includes some reading, too, to strengthen comprehension skills and reading stamina.
I also edit for spelling and grammar, so this ties in SPAG and helps with all aspects of English (almost without the student realising). Inevitably, though, I find that everything improves after a few sessions as students want to do their best when someone will be giving feedback. At the six week mark, I send a video recording of feedback, too, discussing the previous six weeks work and what is to come.
After the course, you may find that you now have the skills to do creative writing sessions for your children yourself, so that is another advantage!
